Satyagraha Movie Review

Movie- Satyagraha
Time-9.00 am
Capacity- 50%

Satyagraha starring Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, Arjun Rampal,Kareena Kapoor Khan, Manoj Bajpai,Amrita Arora releases today all over India. The movie was supposed to release on 15th August but was later on postponed to 30th March to get a clean run with decent screens. There is a lot of expectation from the movie since it marks the return of Amitabh Bachchan after very long. But will the movie be able to fulfill the expectations?? Find it out here.

Satyagraha is being directed by Prakash Jha who has directed many movies in this genre. The movie is being well directed by him but surely this isn't his best work. The movie starts off well and Prakash Jha develops the characters very well. He makes us know the nature of all character in the start of the movie so that there is no confusion about the actions of character in the end. Full marks to him on the way he has established all characters by showing their morals and aim. Prakash Jha had a clear intention to make a movie having a hard hitting message regarding the current system and he has done it very well. The message which he wants to give the audience reaches well and shall connect with all. But in the process of delivering the message he has added many scenes which are not needed specially in the 2nd half. Trying to make the movie a bit commercial he has added Ajay Devgn and Kareena Kapoor's love story which does nothing but increases the length of the movie.
The movie has got many positives in it but there are some negatives too. As the promos suggested the movie lacks the entertainment value and this was not expected too since a movie on serious subject like this cannot have entertainment. But the main negative is there are couple of points which are shown in the 1st half go untouched in the 2nd half. This creates a doubt in the mind of the movie watching audience. The director has spent too long on one of the emotional scene in the 1st half. The camera just focuses on Amitabh and Ajay crying for very long which again increases the length. There are a lot of unwanted scenes in 2nd half which hampers the pace. One more negative part of the movie is Arjun Rampal is being wrongly casted in the movie. His expressions are wooden. But more than negative points there are positive points in the movie.

The biggest factor which goes with the movie is performance by the main cast. Amitabh Bachchan is BRILLIANT. He will surely make you cry in the climax. Watch out for the scene right after Raghpati Raghav song. He is too good in that. He is very good through out the movie. Ajay Devgn goes neck to neck with Amitabh Bachchan. It is difficult to decide who did a better job. Ajay Devgn should be proud of what he has done in the movie. He is very good in the climax. Dont miss his speech in the climax. It shall touch your heart. Kareena Kapoor Khan looks so beautiful throughout the movie. Her cloths in the movie perfectly suit her. She looks amazing in the movie. She portrays the role of Journalist very well. She is one of the finest actress in India. Manoj Bajpai is very good in the negative role but could have done better. He could not surpass what he has done in Rajneeti. Arjun Rampal disappoints. The supporting cast of the movie is good. The placement of songs like Raghu Pati Raghav and Janta rocks is very good where as rest are unnecessary. The basic plot of the movie revolves around current situation of the country which makes the movie worth a watch. Prakash Jha expands the script very well. It fun to see something happening after sometime. The boring scenes of the movies are followed by some brilliant scenes.

Overall, Satyagraha does not surpass Prakash Jha's past superhits Rajneeti and Gangajaal but this attempt of him to make people aware of whats happening around deserves a watch. There are many scenes which have an hard hitting effect on you. The climax, scenes just before the interval are amazing. The actors take the movie to another level. The movie would have been much better had there been more confrontations between Ajay and Manoj bajpai. This is a brave attempt by the director to wake the people of our country and take the charge.  The movie wont disappoint you.
I am going with 3.5 on 5 for Prakash Jha's Satyagraha. A brave effort.
